National Grid Pylon Plans

Dear Parish Clerk,

I have had a number of email from residents about National Grid's proposals to put up electricity pylons throughout our constituency and across Lincolnshire.

Both myself and Victoria Atkins, MP for Louth and Horncastle, have concerns about the potential impact this project would have on our local area.

My constituents have already accommodated the construction of underground power lines, and the construction of this line would bring further disruption.  I am also concerned about the permanent scar it would leave on Lincolnshire's rural landscape, which contains Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Overground pylons are ultimately the cheapest option; but I wish to see consideration given to an offshore or underground transmission route, which would preserve the beauty of the local landscape.

I have had many constituents contact me to express their views on these proposals and am holding a public meeting in Sutterton Village Hall on Monday 12th February from 4:30-6pm, to give all constituents the opportunity to discuss this issue with me as their MP.  Please do attend if this is of interest and please share this with your parish councillors and residents.  National Grid have been invited to attend but have declined.

I would also encourage local residents to have their say in the ongoing consultation, which is open until 13th March 2024.  National Grid are holding three in-person consultation events in our constituency, in Burgh Le Marsh, Boston, and New Leake.  For more information visit: https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-launch-public-consultation-early-stage-proposals-grimsby-walpole-key-infrastructure#:~:text=National%20Grid%20Electricity%20Transmission%20(NGET,of%20the%20grid%20in%20generations.

Kind regards,
